In 1932 brothers Bill and Mike Brooks decided to move their families to Southeastern Ohio to start a shoe factory. With borrowed equipment, they began the Williams Brooks Shoe Co. Mike Brooks left the company in 1946, with his son John staying behind. Even as the company was sold and changed hands, John stayed on. Eventually, in 1975, John Brooks turned owner, Mike Brooks returned to the shoe company, and in 1979 the Rocky brand was born.
Rocky Boots continued to grow, become an innovator in the hunting world, selling at outdoor and sporting goods stores across the country.
