In 1901 the founder of Wolverine, G.A. Krause helped bring power to the town of Rockford, Michigan.  This allowed him and his sons to start a shoe factory.  Two years later they were making around 300 pairs of shoes a day.  Success came a such a pace he became the nation’s first company to sell its shares to its employees.

Later Krause included a tannery and was able to develop a method of horsehide processing(no other tannery had done so), making it soft an pliable.  They later used used that hide to make their “1000 Mile Shoe” said to give you 1000 miles of wear.  Now the Wolverine 1000 Mile Collection is based off of the durability and functionality of that one special shoe.
